SAA offers a variety of annual programs that aim to fulfill the SAA Mission:
Alumni Mentors for Students
Alumni Advisors provides opportunities for students to have mentor-to-mentee connections with UC Merced alumni. Alumni and students are matched through an application process. They meet three times a semester, in person and on line. Alumni Advisors allows students to have professional and career oriented discussions with alumni who have been there!
Alumni Career Chats feature a group of UC Merced alumni panelists who discuss career-related topics for current students to gain better insight into their potential career areas of interest. Past panels have covered research, law and health sciences. Five SAA members are also selected to have an exclusive dinner with the panelists before the event. Stay tuned for more topics and Alumni Career Chats to come!
Professional Development Opportunities
The SAA PREP Series aims to prepare students for their future roles as alumni by partnering with various campus departments to provide professional development workshops. Past workshops have discussed resume review, the employer's point of view in an interview and what to expect when you're expecting to graduate. Be on the lookout for another slate of SAA PREP Series workshops in the coming academic year.
Annual New-Student Welcome
The annual Scholars Lane Bridge Crossing welcomes all incoming first-year and transfer students to UC Merced as they don their "Let the Journey Begin" T-shirts. Led by Chancellor Dorothy Leland, every student walks through the Beginnings Sculpture signifying the beginning of their journey as Bobcats. They walk thorough the sculpture again during commencement in the reverse direction. Every Scholars Lane Bridge Crossing serves as a kickoff to the annual ASCEND New Student Conference.
